Plantar fasciitis is the most common cause of heel pain, and not many are aware that homeopathy can be very helpful in treating plantar fasciitis.
Plantar fasciitis commonly causes pain in the heel and bottom of the foot, usually when taking the first steps in the morning or after resting. It’s caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, the tissue that connects the heel to the toes and supports the arch of the foot.
Some common causes of plantar fasciitis include: type of shoes, foot structure, overuse, and types of walking surfaces. It may also occur in individuals who do a lot of standing, walking or sporting activities, usually due to overuse.
Symptoms usually start gradually with pain on the heel that may radiate forward into the foot. The pain is generally worse on waking and improves with foot movement, but it usually worsens after standing for very long or after exercising.

HOW RHUS TOX FOR PLANTAR FASCIITIS CAN BE HELPFUL AS PART OF A COMBINATION FOR THE BANERJI PROTOCOL.
BANERJI PROTOCOL TIP
- Symphytum 200+ Rhus Tox 30 twice daily
This is the protocol that Dr Banerji developed in homeopathy and tends to help the majority of people.
Take these remedies twice daily for eight weeks or until the pain is gone. It can be taken for longer if needed or repeated.
Rhus tox has an affinity to aponeuroses, ligaments, tendons and Fibrous tissue.
Rhus tox has a strong affinity for aponeuroses, ligaments, tendons, and fibrous tissue. Aponeuroses connect muscles to bones or cartilage and may also function as fascia, enveloping and providing attachment points for other muscles. Hence this remedy is the most indicated for this condition where the fascia and tendons become inflamed.
Rhus tox is the most important remedy for fibrous tissue.
OTHER HOMEOPATHIC REMEDIES FOR PLANTAR FASCIITIS
Although the Banerji Protocol above for Plantar Fasciitis is my favourite combination in homeopathy for dealing with this, unfortunately, it does not help everyone!
After treating many sports people with this condition, I have learned to use a few therapeutic remedies that can be also helpful if the above Protocol has not helped.
Sometimes, the above protocol helps partially to relive the pain. In that case, other remedies can be used alongside or instead of it.
I have also used in my clinic with good results:
- Symphytum200+Rhus Tox 200 twice daily
- Ruta 200 twice daily, is also a good remedy for inflammation of the tendons and the periosteum
- Causticum 200 twice daily for those having the sensation that the tendons are contracted or can not stand on the heel. You may also experience a burning sensation on the soles of the feet.
- Kali Iod 200 twice daily, for stubborn pain that does not go away after using the protocol above. This remedy targets the periosteum and is complementary to Rhus Tox.
These are all complementary remedies that work well alongside or in alternation.
